Format:

During the retreat weekend we will read and share on the 12 Steps together. If you have worked on the Steps in this type of format before, you already know its value. If you have not done any study of the Steps, intensive or otherwise, this is a great way to do it, especially the first time. 

Location:  The Daylesford Abbey is a peaceful refuge where you can deepen your sense of personal and communal spirituality. The abbey grounds have over 80 acres of property and is located in Paoli, Pennsylvania.

Cost: Choice of commuter and non-commuter spaces available (limited to 22 non-commuter). Scholarships available upon request.

NON-COMMUTER WEEKEND: Attending as a participant and staying overnight Friday through Sunday (Participation in the step weekend, six meals, and a single bedroom for 2 nights are included) – $395 after 7/31/22 – $355 early registration until July 31, 2022

COMMUTER WEEKEND: Friday through Sunday but not staying overnight (Participation in the step weekend, six meals. No overnight stay) – $215 after 7/31/22 – $175 early registration until  July 31, 2022

Meals: Six meals are included for both commuter and non-commuter participants. Contact retreat coordinator if you have to provide your own food for personal or religious reasons. Friday (dinner), Saturday (breakfast, lunch and dinner), Sunday (breakfast and lunch). A freezer, refrigerator and microwave are available to all participants in the upstairs lounge. Coffee & tea are also freely available throughout the weekend.

Cancellation Policy:

  • To receive a FULL REFUND, please contact the retreat coordinator IN WRITING NO LATER THAN 6 weeks prior to the date for which you are registered to attend. (before August 12, 2022)

  • Cancellations made less than 6 weeks (after August 12, 2022) prior to the retreat date WILL BE REFUNDED IN FULL ONLY if your canceled space is filled. Partial refunds will be made at retreat coordinators discretion.

  • GDVI and coordinators reserve the right to cancel any weekend if it does not receive at least 15 reservations by the respective registration dates. You will be refunded in full if this occurs.

There is no sobriety requirement to attend, but participants MUST STAY SOBER DURING THE WEEKEND. This ensures that everyone can attend in safety and work together to expand our recovery. People will be asked to leave if they do not abide by this rule.
Come early Friday/Stay Sunday for Fellowship. Meet other attendees by arriving early, offer to do service, take a stroll on the Abbey grounds. Friday begins promptly at 7:15 pm and Sunday ends at 2:15 pm, please consider that in the planning of your trip.

FORMAT & REQUIREMENTS:

  • During the retreat weekend we will read and share on the 12 Steps together. If you have worked on the Steps in this type of format before, you already know its value. If you have not done any study of the Steps, intensive or otherwise, this is a great way to do it, especially the first time. It gives you hope and faith that the program steps work. Regardless of where any one individual is in the Step study process, we are able to learn from sharing our experience, strength and hope with each other.

 

  • There will be leaders and speakers selected at random on the Friday introduction of the weekend. We trust our Higher Power in this process and know whoever is chosen to speak or lead is strengthening their own recovery and offering value to ours.

 

  • Identify as a Sex and Love Addict or think you have a problem with Sex and Love addiction.
  • This is not a recovery day where you can show up or leave throughout the weekend. This retreat requires all participants to participate together to share and grow in the S.L.A.A.
  • The S.L.A.A. Basic Text is used for the weekend. No electronic devices will be permitted in the meeting space. Please have a copy of the basic text with you in order to participate. (You can order a copy of the basic text on your registration form).
  • Be present on Friday by 8pm ET as names are drawn for the schedule of leaders and speakers. If you can not attend by this time, please consider discussing with the retreat coordinator before registering.
  • Dinner on Friday is 5:45pm to 6:15pm If you arrive after 6:05pm Friday you will need to arrange for your own dinner. There is a microwave, refrigerator and freezer available if you are bringing your own food.
  • Entry Doors to the ABBEY. The front door of the Spirituality Center will be locked at 9:00pm and reopened at 9:00am. For commuters, we have arranged for a door monitor Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 7:45am to join us for breakfast or to attend the Saturday meditation meeting. Side access into the Spirituality Center will be arranged starting at 8:00am.
  • If you are registering as a non-commuter, bedroom doors only lock from the inside. We recommend leaving valuable items at home, in your car or keeping it with you.
  • Willing to be open, flexible and supportive of the retreat coordinators and attendees throughout the weekend.

 Getting Current Meeting

  -length of time depends on number of attendees, all attendees can go to bed or commuters can leave at any time after getting current meeting begins-

As a reminder, when you registered you have acknowledged this retreat requires all attendees to participate together to share and grow using the S.L.A.A. Basic Text. We all will learn from your own experience, strength and hope no matter how short or long you have been in recovery. Self-care may be taken at times you are not chosen for speaking/leading/service or during the scheduled break times.

Registration/Scholarship/Extra Purchases

Would you like to purchase a copy of the SLAA Basic text and have it waiting for you at the retreat for pick up there a copy will be reserved for you at registration check-in on Friday, September 23rd)?
If you'd prefer to order one and have it shipped prior to the retreat, you can contact the Literature Coordinator to order one.

Accommodations and Food

All rooms are single, please answer if registering as a non commuter (staying overnight)

Rideshare/Local Transportation

If you are driving to the retreat, would you be open to carpooling with people from your local area?
Do you give GDVI permission to share your contact information with another local participant to assist with pickup/drop off or carpooling?
Will you be taking public transportation(train) to the Paoli Train Station?
If arriving by train to the Paoli train station, we can arrange to have someone pick you up. First train pick up time will be between 3pm and 5pm. Second train pick up time will be between 6pm and 6:30pm.
 
If you arrive after 6:15, you'll need to provide your own dinner.
 
Departing on Sunday, your train departure should be after 2pm to allow you and others to enjoy the entire closing.
 
You must contact the retreat coordinator no later than 2 weeks prior to the retreat date to make these arrangements.

Service

The Paoli train station is only one mile from the retreat center and taxis or other car services are limited. Would you be able to do a train pick up Friday?
Would you be able to do a train drop off on Sunday when the retreat ends (between 2pm and 3pm)?
If needed, would you be open to a Philadelphia airport pick up Friday or Drop off Sunday?
** A coordinator will be in touch closer to the retreat to arrange service opportunity

Due to the format of this retreat, it is important to be present on Friday by 8pm ET as names are drawn for the schedule of who will be our step leaders and step speakers. This retreat requires active participation no matter where you are in your step work or a newcomer. If you can not attend by this time, please consider discussing this with the retreat coordinator before registering.
